Description
LIGO Hanford Observatory operates two of the world's largest gravitational wave interferometers. Laser light travels five miles through the desert inside evacuated steel tubes as part of this ambitious effort, supported by the National Science Foundation, to open a new window on the universe. The Observatory offers free twice-monthly public tours and private tours for groups of 15(+). Drop-in guests can visit during business hours to view posters, displays and a video. Check the LIGO Hanford Web site for information about tours, public events and driving directions to the site.
