DescriptionThe Kern County Museum is a real California experience showcasing thousands of real artifacts in more than 56 historic exhibits amid 16 shaded park-like acres. Here visitors can discover the past at their own pace. From the 1891 Queen Anne style Howell House to the 1868 Barnes Log Cabin, the 1882 Norris School, to jails and a train depot there is truly something everyone can enjoy. The Lori Brock Children's Discovery Center is specifically for children 8 and under; a place kids can learn through play. The award-winning Black Gold: The Oil Experience offers unique hands-on experiences for visitors of any age. Originally built as the Kern County Chamber of Commerce, the main museum houses a variety of permanent and changing exhibits. Be sure to check the museum website (www.kcmuseum.org) for fascinating special event dates. Car shows, antique shows, living history days, family fun days and more are scheduled all year.
