Description | Built in 1890 as naval officers quarters, the 9000 square foot historic house features 85-90% original furnishings purchased by the Navy for use by President Truman. Truman used the estate for 175 days of his presidency. Other presidents who have used the site as a retreat, White House or summit location include William Taft, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. One hour tours offered daily 9 to 4:30 every 15-20 minutes. An acre of botanical gardens recreate the 1949 site plan. Includes free exhibits at entrance as well. |
