| Description | The Hall of Fame for Great Americans is the first Hall of Fame created in America, in 1901. The Hall of Fame is rich in history, unrivaled for its architecture, and an important component of the educational landscape at Bronx Community College. The historic and democratic institution celebrates not only the exploits of rulers and soldiers, but honors the achievements of scientists, educators, humanitarians, and artists.
Stanford White’s vision, on the former campus of New York University, is one of America’s greatest cultural achievements. The 630-foot open-air Colonnade is a sweeping semicircular neoclassical arc with niches that houses 98 busts out of the 102 elected honorees, from George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony to George Washington Carver. It surrounds one of America’s best-kept secrets the Gould Memorial Library. One can venture into another time and another place, by guided tour only, to experience Stanford White’s Gould Memorial Library, inspired by the Pantheon in Rome.
The ingenuity of Henry Mitchell MacCracken, the generosity of Helen Miller Shepard, and the architectural mastermind that was Stanford White, can be experienced and brought to life with a guided tour of the Hall of Fame for Great Americans and the Gould Memorial Library, located on the campus of Bronx Community College. The Hall of Fame is open to the public for guided and self-guided tours when the campus is open between the hours of 9:00 am and
5:00 pm. Admission is free for self-guided tours only. Donation fees can be viewed on the website.
