| Description | Beginning as the New Haven Restaurant Institute in Connecticut, The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) continues to fulfill its mission as the culinary center of our nation here in Hyde Park. With branch campuses in California, Texas, and most recently in Singapore (their first international campus), the CIA has experienced healthy growth and expansion over its nearly seventy years of existence.
Starting out serving returning WWII veterans and providing them with culinary job skills, the CIA at its flagship campus in Hyde Park now offers two degree program majorsùculinary arts or baking and pastry arts, Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) degree programs or Associate in Occupational Studies (AOS) degree programs, an AOS degree program for Advanced Career Experience (ACE) students, and certificate programs in culinary arts and wine and beverage studies. The AOS is specially designed for students who have previous food industry experience and are looking to improve their skills at the CIA.
Even if you're not a prospective student or a professional looking to improve their skills, the CIA offers five student-staffed restaurants that not only provide the CIA's students with hands on cooking and baking experience but delights the customer with the amazing food the Institute is known for. The campus itself is also not to be missed, with stunning views of the Hudson; extensive Craig Claiborne bookstore; the second largest culinary library (Conrad Hilton Library) in the nation (second only to the Library of Congress), and the beautiful architecture of the school itself, a former Jesuit seminary. |
