Description | Relive the days of steam and steel when you visit the lovingly restored Cowan Railroad Museum in Cowan, Tennessee.
We have preserved more than 160 years of railroading and industrial history with an enormous collection of photos, relics, stories and exhibits. Cowan, the depot and the town, demonstrated the vision and the will to move a mountain and build one of the most important rail lines in the country.
Outside the depot, we display a very rare Porter-type steam locomotive with a flatcar and bay window caboose from the venerable Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Railway (NC&St.L) and a historic diesel-electric switch locomotive.
Our location in historic downtown Cowan is only steps away from fine dining, specialty shopping, a restored railroad hotel, and the downtown railroad park. Other world-famous attractions are within an hour's drive from Cowan including The University of the South, Falls Mill, Jack Daniel's Distillery, George Dickel Distillery, and the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. |
