DescriptionCora Mill, originally built in 1835, is the last of 13 grist mills that flourished along Raccoon Creek in Gallia County. Mills such as this one, were used to grind grain into flour and sometimes, to saw logs into lumber. The mills were very important during the early settlement of an area. Not only did they grind grain, but often had stores that sold the few supplies needed by the largely self-suffient farmers. Mills served as gathering places and frequently, villages like Cora, sprang up around the mills.
