Description	The old west as it really was! Get a glimpse of what life was like for those seeking their fortune in the 1849 California Gold Rush. Pan for gold, ride the stagecoach, visit the school and take in the best preserved goldrush era town in California. Because the entire town is a state park, it's offers a wonderful mix of moder shops and restaurants along with "businesses" as they were in the 1850's. Check out the Chinese herab shop, the "butcher" and the "dentist"-you'll have a great appreciate for what we have today! herbal shop, the butcher and the dentist...you'll appreciate modern dentistry after you see what it was like then! Bring the kids too to enjoy some old fashioned games along with the gold panning and stagecoach rides and take a brief walk from downtown up to the old schoolhouse for glimpse of 19th century education. There are special events tied to the city's glorious gold rush history year around - most of them free to the public. On weekends, some of the town's historic saloons have live music and entertainment and the Sierra Repertory Theatre (www.sierrarep.org)offers live theatrical performances in the historic Fallon House Theater and Hotel. Columbia offers casual and fine dining, some unique shops featuring locally made goods and the Columbia Candy Kitchen where you can learn to make candy. It was voted one of the 10 most romantic places for chocolate in the country by USA Today.
