| Description | The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center & Garis Gallery of the American West, located in Duncan, Oklahoma, provides an interactive experience of the historic Chisholm Trail and settlement of the southern Great Plains of the United States. Exhibits throughout the museum add a learning component while still providing fun for all ages.
Located in "the middle of the Chisholm Trail" it's a place to Discover the Old West in a new way! Explore, push buttons, pick up a lasso, or put on a cowboy hat. Eavesdrop on our animatronics Jesse Chisholm and his friend, Tex, as they tell the story of the trail in our Campfire Theater.
In our 4D Experience Theater, you'll feel a bit of shaking (among a few other fun surprises) as you watch a cattle stampede. As you explore the interactive area, the "authentic" Duncan General Store, art and history exhibits and the Garis Gallery of the American West, you’ll have so much fun, you’ll be surprised you’re learning a thing or two about the Chisholm Trail. You’ll be able to get a close look at the animals that are native to the region – bison, longhorn, black bear, rattlesnakes and more. Don’t worry, our collection quit biting years ago!
Recognized as one of the best hidden gems in Oklahoma, the Garis Gallery of the American West collection features notable western artists like the historic greats - Frederic Remington, Charles Russell and George Catlin; and modern day award-winning artists like Oklahoman's Harold Holden, Paul Moore and Gay Faulkenberry. Also see works by John Coleman, Allan Houser, Kiowa 6, Rance Hood, Chad Payne and more.
Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is designated an Official Best of "Best Heritage Attraction" | an Oklahoma Outstanding Attraction (earned this four times) | a Top 10 Western Museum as designated by True West Magazine, two times | and True West Magazine has once again included us in their list of top museums - July 2019.
