Description | Mount Gulian Historic Site welcomes youngsters and adults to its annual Children’s Spring Tea on Tuesday March 27th, from noon to 2 p.m. One of Mount Gulian’s most popular events, the Spring Tea combines genteel fun, good manners and education about a bygone era, in an authentic setting where social teas were once standard fare.
New this year is the introduction of an Easter Egg Hunt on our beautiful grounds (weather permitting). It’s believed that German immigrants brought the custom of Easter egg hunting to Pennsylvania in the 1700’s. While there is no documentation that the Verplanck children enjoyed hunting and rolling eggs on the riverside lawn in the 1800’s when the family resided at Mount Gulian, we think it’s highly likely.
The Children’s Tea, held in Mount Gulian’s two main rooms, with tables set with fine linens, china and porcelain tea pots, is offered during spring break so as to bring families and friends together to share a special tradition. A craft project for the children will also be offered.
The menu will consist of assorted Harney & Sons teas, scones and breads, dainty finger sandwiches and a selection of homemade desserts.
