| Description | The Chanute Air Museum opened in 1994 after the closure of the Chanute Air Force Base. The Muesum preserves the life and accomplishments of Octave Chanute, Chanute Field/Afb, the heritage of Illinois aviation, Illinois aviation pioneers, and the community of Rantoul. The Museum's holdings include large artifact, library, and archive collections. Visitors can experience over 40 historic aircrafts, such as a P-51H and XB-47, and explore exhibits telling the story of the Tuskegee Airmen's 99th Pursuit Squadron, the World War II POW experience, and much more. |
