Description | The Buffalo Bill Cody museum features a wide variety of artifacts regarding Buffalo Bill Cody and his Wild West Congress, as well as various artifacts related to the history of LeClaire, Iowa. Among these artifacts are numerous relics from the Sauk and Fox Indian tribes of the area, a reconstruction of the office of James "Crash" Ryan (inventor of the 'Black Box' flight recorder and LeClaire native), a display on James Eads (man responsible for the construction of the Eads bridge and LeClaire native), and an extensive array of items from LeClaire's long and storied past as a hub of commerce on the Mississippi river. The museum recently raised one million dollars for the construction of the "River Pilots' Pier," a green-construction addition to the building designed to house the famous Lone Star Steamer, the longest running steamboat in American history. The Lone Star itself has undergone extensive renovations to ensure that, even dry docked, it remains in top condition for museum patrons to come and explore. Last but not least, the museum also features a gift shop where one may purchase souvenirs to commemorate their visit to historic LeClaire. The shop features everything from Buffalo Bill Cody T-shirts, to jewelry, to arrowheads, all at excellent prices. Open Monday-Saturday 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M., and Noon until 5:00 P.M. on Sundays (closed at 4:00 P.M. January-March). |
