What’s unique and/or has small town charm? What are the hidden treasures? Aberdeen is a city of Midwest hospitality mixed with metropolitan progressiveness and it provides an exceptional quality of life. 2016 is the year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Storybook Land! This celebration will be ongoing during the summer months. Aberdeen residents and many visitors agree that Storybook Land, The Land of Oz, and Wylie Park are our hidden treasures and a must to see!
What’s old in town? (brief history/heritage): The railroad played a vital part in the history of Aberdeen. We are named after Aberdeen, Scotland, the hometown of the Milwaukee Railroad President, Alexander Mitchell. This city became known as the Hub City of the Dakotas due to the many rail lines converging in Aberdeen from all directions much like spokes on a wheel joining at its hub. The city grew rapidly and today Aberdeen has diversified into a strong agriculture, manufacturing, and service center. Families enjoy its hometown allure and the many educational and social opportunities.

Plans for the year? Aberdeen thrives on promoting our great city to locals and travelers. With the addition of new businesses and dining, Aberdeen continues to be an attraction vacation and business destination. This summer and fall, thousands will gather at our fairs and festivals. Aberdeen will again welcome hunters from across the nation to “Limit Out” and enjoy world class pheasant hunting.
