Description of this Newport News Attraction: View red wolves, bald eagles, otters and a loggerhead sea turtle up close. See a living replica of a Cypress Swamp and an Appalachian mountain cove. Touch live horseshoe crabs and fossilized dinosaur tracks. The museum's living exhibits and hands-on experiences engage groups of all ages. The spacious exhibition building and ten-acre wooded area bring visitors in contact with more habitats, wildlife and plant species than could be encountered in a lifetime of outdoor adventures in Virginia. Outdoors, groups can stroll the elevated boardwalk to view coastal birds, beavers and other animals in naturalized habitats, plus native plant gardens. Study spectacular views of the sun from the observatory and travel the universe in a planetarium show. School groups may schedule hands-on natural and space science classes, labs and field experiences. Also available are "Behind the Scenes" tours, "After Hours" tours, exclusive "group only" planetarium and laser shows and performance venues.
