Description of this Newport News area Attraction: Colonial National Historical Park (NHP) administers two of the most historically significant sites in English North America. Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America in 1607, is administered jointly with the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, and Yorktown Battlefield, the final major battle of the American Revolutionary War in 1781.
These two sites represent the beginning and end of English colonial America. Situated on the Virginia Peninsula, these sites are connected by the 23 mile scenic Colonial Parkway. Colonial NHP also includes Green Spring, the 17th century plantation home of Virginia's colonial governor, Sir William Berkeley, and the Cape Henry Memorial, which marks the approximate site of the first landing of the Jamestown colonists in April of 1607.
Colonial NHP has a variety of natural resources including extensive wetlands, forest, fields, shorelines and streams, as well as rare, threatened and endangered plants and animals.

Description of this Newport News Attraction: Christopher Newport University's Ferguson Center for the Arts has become an important cultural beacon in the Commonwealth. This $60 million, 300,000-square-foot facility attracts and presents the finest artists and entertainers in the world. The Ferguson Center includes the impressive 1,700-seat Concert Hall, the 500-seat Music & Theatre Hall and a 200-seat Studio Theatre. Designed by the world-renowned architectural firm of Pei Cobb Freed and Partners, the Center boasts an open design and multifaceted, adaptable layout lending itself to a variety of purposes. There are separate and unique theatres, modern classrooms, rehearsal halls, design labs, soundproof practice rooms, dance spaces and scene and costume shops that were developed to also meet the educational needs of Christopher Newport University students now and for generations to come.

Description of this Newport News Attraction: Explore the world of Amry transportation at the U.S. Army Transportation Museum. Throughout America's military history the Army's transportation soldeiers have been "first in, last out." Experience the history of Army transportation through its equipment and soldiers. From Conestoga Wagons to trucks, trains, aircraft and uniforms of our branch history, learn about the REvolution, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and present day operations. Examine 200 years of Army Transportation history through exhibits, dioramas, models and full scale scenes. A new 18,000-square-foot exhibit gallery expands the museum's story of Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War. Visitors will get a glimpse of a soldier's living conditions during Desert Storm and see an actual HMMWV used in Afghanistan. Located on Fort Eustis, an active Army installation, the Museum covers six acres of indoor and outdoor exhibits.
Please note: All visitors to Fort Eustis must show valid IDs (driver's license and/or photo ID) and vehicle registration at the visitor's center.
