Singer, pianist, songwriter, arranger, and producer, the New Orleans native has been making hit records for more than 40 years. His indelible influence on American music reaches deep into the roots of rhythm and blues, pop, country, musical theater, blues, and jazz. Backed by an all-star jazz combo, Allen Toussaint will perform selections from his vast and legendary catalogue, along with tunes from his 2009 release on Nonesuch Records, titled The Bright Mississippi – an album that reinterprets some of the classic New Orleans jazz and blues standards of the past.

Description of this Greensboro Event: Now entering its 49th year, the Eastern Music Festival & School is recognized for its prodigious contributions to the field of American music and its commitment to nurturing talented American and international youth through a collaborative learning process. The program brings together a cross-section of the world's most sought-after artists with pre-professional students in a five-week schedule of more than 100 concerts and music-related events. The Festival also produces a popular EMFfringe series of alternative programming, featuring everything from Americana to alt country, blues, rock, jazz and gospel. Music Director Gerard Schwarz heads a distinguished list of participating artists. Current and past artists and students include Yo-Yo Ma, Sarah Chang, Wynton Marsalis, Midori, Andre Watts, Joshua Bell, Bruce Hornsby, Bela Fleck, Chick Corea, and many more. While offices are in the Greensboro Cultural Center in downtown Greensboro, NC, concerts and events are held at a variety of locations around the Triad including Guilford College, Triad Stage, UNCG School of Music, Reynolda House Museum of American Art, First Presbyterian Church, Temple Emanuel, Elon University, High Point University, the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts (Washington, DC), Appalachian State University (Boone, NC), and other venues. In addition to the summer festival, EMF produces a Fringe in the Fall series, EMFjazz&blues in the spring, EMFkids events, and other performances throughout the year.
