Lake of the Woods is known throughout the nation as one of the best walleye fisheries in the world! In addition to fabulous multi-species fishing, the area hosts thousands of acres of public land for wildlife viewing! Black bear, grey wolves, whitetail deer, river otter and beaver are all routinely sighted. Birding opportunities abound in the area, and the Lake of the Woods is home to various colonial nest sites, including pelican, common terns, black terns and double crested cormorants. The rare Piping Plover nests in the Wildlife Sanctuary located on Pine Island. Our center hosts an array of area brochures along with our comprehensive, Getaway Guide. The Lake of the Woods Tourist Information Center is open year around, Monday through Friday, 9:00-4:30 in the winter and seven days a week in the summer.
