Description of this New Orleans Attraction: In 1857, esteemed New Orleans architect, James Gallier, Jr., put his considerable talent to work designing a residence of his own. Enjoy a stroll through Gallier's elegant Victorian home, authentically restored to reflect the taste and lifestyle of a successful urban designer in 19th-century New Orleans. Gallier House is an outstanding example of accurate and comprehensive historic restoration of one of New Orleans' loveliest and time-honored landmarks. As part of the annual programming at the Gallier House: during the summer months the house dons her summer dress; every Wednesday, from October through May living history demonstrations are presented, exploring such diverse topics as 19th-century housekeeping to woodworking; and the halls are decked as well as everything else during the holiday season.

Hermann-Grima House

Description of this New Orleans Attraction: The Hermann-Grima Historic House is a restored 1830s Federal-style mansion located in the heart of the historic French Quarter.The house has been painstakingly restored with period antiques and "family" pieces. Museum visitors learn about the people that lived on the property including enslaved individuals and free people of color. They will also visit a unique courtyard garden, a restored slave quarter, a functional open-hearth kitchen and the only intact private stable left in the French Quarter. As part of the annual programming at the Hermann-Grima House: every Thursday, from October through May period cooking demonstrations are given in the 1830s kitchen; late October through All Saints Day the house goes into "mourning"; and the halls are decked as well as everything else during the holiday season.

Louisiana Political Museum & Hall of Fame
Museum dedicated to preserving La.'s fascinating politics

Description of this Louisiana Attraction: The Louisiana Political Museum & Hall of Fame is located in the old L&A Railroad Depot, circa 1908. The museum opened in August of 1993 on the anniversary of Huey P. Long's 100th birthday. The museum has accumulated over 100,000 artifacts and memorabilia relating to politicians and politics in La. There are life sized mannequins of the two famous Long brothers, Huey and Earl. Much of the display has been donated to the museum by the inductees into the Hall of Fame or by their families. The inductees into the Hall of Fame are selected by a state-wide panel of political historians and writers. Each of the Inductees have their own display with a caricature drawn by famed political cartoonist Pap Dean, who is also a member of the Hall of Fame. As of 2008 there have been 114 individuals inducted into this famous Political Hall of Fame.

Exhibits include bloodletting and Civil War surgical instruments, apothecary jars, patent medicines, voodoo potions, an 1855 soda fountain and more! The Museum also features a 19th century courtyard complete with herb garden. Current exhibits include, "Epidemics in 19th Century New Orleans" and "The History of the American Cocktail", on loan through September 2005.
