Florida West Coast Symphony Ranked first twice among Florida's musical organizations

Description of this Sarasota-Bradenton area Attraction: Founded in 1949, the Florida West Coast Symphony has the distinction of being the oldest continuing orchestra in the State of Florida. The organization has twice been ranked first among all Florida musical organizations by the grants panel of the Florida Arts Council’s Cultural Institutions Program, which provides major funding for organizations of excellence. Today’s symphony is a dynamic, multi-faceted organization dedicated to excellence in both performance and education. A budget of nearly $5.7 million supports a vital institution in an exciting period of artistic growth. The Symphony presents over 100 concerts of diverse repertoire each year in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties on the west coast of Florida, under the direction of artistic director Leif Bjaland. Its educational programs include an extensive Youth Orchestra Program, music education classes for all ages, community outreach programs, and the Sarasota Music Festival for college-age musicians of the highest caliber, designated the Official Teaching and Performing Festival of the State of Florida. Description of this Clearwater area Attraction: Welcome to the 2009 Performing Arts Series at Pasco-Hernando Community College, your ticket to great entertainment for the whole family! The 2009 season has something for everyone, from Gaelic Storm, a wild ride of Celtic music, to The Vogues, who were inducted into the Vocal Hall of Fame in 2001. You’ll enjoy our small, intimate theater where all seats have a great view at bargain ticket prices that cost less than the tank of gas it takes to drive to major theater venues in Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg.
Shows take place in the Performing Arts Center, a 620-seat auditorium located on PHCC’s West Campus in New Port Richey, Florida. PHCC’s Performing Arts Center is a small, intimate theater where every seat has a great view. The 540-seat amphitheater arena provides seating in six sections and has a proscenium stage that allows for excellent visibility and acoustics from every angle.
Funds raised from this performance benefit the Pasco-Hernando Community College Foundation. The Foundation supports scholarships, health programs, three libraries, faculty and staff development, and academic equipment for the college.
