Texas State Aquarium An undersea adventure awaits you
Category: Corpus Christi Aquarium in Texas
Description of this Corpus Christi Attraction: The Texas State Aquarium, the Coastal Bend’s most popular visitor attraction, invites you to Come.Sea.Discover their amazing underwater world.
Your experience begins on the path leading to the Aquarium, which depicts whales, rays, dolphins, sharks, and the Gulf of Mexico itself. As one enters the building, by walking under a “waterfall”, a sensation of full submersion into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico begins to take place. You will then travel an aquatic journey from the shore to the depths of the Gulf and have the opportunity to observe dolphin presentations, dive shows, animal feedings and have a “hands on” experience with sharks and stingrays.
Are you curious about dolphins? Dolphin Bay is a state-of-the-art marine mammal habitat that features above and below water viewing allowing visitors to get up close and personal with these majestic animals. Want to know what it takes to work with these animals? Participate in the Trainer for a Day Program, where participants can spend four hours learning to be a dolphin trainer and actually have a one-on-one session with one of the dolphins!
One of the Aquarium’s most popular exhibits is the 132,000 gallon Islands of Steel, modeled after an offshore oil platform. Sharks and sea turtles live among schools of snapper, tarpon, redfish, jacks and grouper.
New for 2005 is the AMAZON exhibit. This exhibit reflects the mysterious nature of the rainforest. As you enter the dark interior of the AMAZON exhibit your senses will come alive with the sights and sounds of exotic birds and thrashing piranhas. You may also encounter macaws, parrots, toucans, poison-dart frogs, fresh-water stingrays, lizards, and snakes such as boa constrictors. Tarantulas, millipedes, and scorpions, will also crawl through the AMAZON. Get to know these creatures of the AMAZON up close through “live animal encounters” presented throughout the day.
Come face-to-fin with a sand tiger shark, angelfish and stingray. Sea the dolphins of Dolphin Bay. Discover the amazing AMAZON. Come. Sea. Discover – The Texas State Aquarium. Open daily on Corpus Christi Beach. Call 1-800-477-GULF or visit us at texasstateaquarium.org for more information.
