Historic Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum

Description of this Jackson Attraction: The legend lives on in Jackson, Tennessee at the historic home of America's most famous railroad engineer, Casey Jones. Unlike Paul Bunyan and other folk heroes, Casey Jones was a real person who lived in Jackson. He gave his life April 30th, 1900 to save the lives of his passengers on Engine #382. His story was made famous around the world with "The Ballad of Casey Jones". His original 1890's home is now a museum dedicated to the brave men and women of the railroad. Climb aboard a 130 ton replica of #382 and ring the bell just like Casey. Visit the official gift shop too - The Casey Jones Train Store. Museum hours 9 am to 5 pm daily. Located in Casey Jones Village in Jackson, Tennessee. The Best Whistlestop between Memphis & Nashville. All Aboard!

Description of this Jackson area Attraction: This 36 x 24 ft. two-story log building is built from 1820 - 30 vintage logs from the Crockett Family and other pioneer homes. It houses 1800's furniture, tools, and artifacts as well as pictures, books, letters, etc. related to Col. David Crockett's life in this neighborhood from 1821 until late 1835. He served in the U. S. Congress while he lived here. The grave and monument of his mother, Rebecca Hawkins Crockett is on the grounds. Picnic tables on lawn and in adjacent park.

Feed and pet the barnyard animals, explore the Kiddie Corn Maze to look for the funny animal scarecrows, pick out a pumpkin, and jump in the wagon load of cotton. Enjoy the hayrides, tractor tire playground, 20’ tube slide, rubber duck races and more. Each festival features pumpkin games and milk mustache contests. Description of this Jackson Attraction: A restored turn-of-the-century N.C. & St.L. railway depot.The City of Jackson,TN. has restored the Depot into a local history Railroad Museum-a lasting tribute to the impact of the railroads on the growth of Jackson and Madison County. The Museum's permanent collection includes photographs, artifacts, and related memorabilia associated with the 14 railroads that have been in Jackson over the years. Also located on the grounds are an FEC dining car and two cabooses open for view. An elaborate working HO scale model,built by the Jackson Model Railroad Club, depicts Jackson rich railroad history and receives "rave reviews" from our visitors. Free Admission

Description of this Jackson area Attraction: Parkers Crossroads is the site of battle fought Dec. 31, 1862 between the forces of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest and Union General Jeremiah C. Sullivan. This 1400 acre historic battlefield is interpreted by both driving and walking tours. Tour brochure available at visitors center. Most trails are wheelchair accessible. An audio tour is available. Dedicated in 2006, the Park currently consists of 300 acres. The visitors center is located 1/2 mile south of Interstate 40 on Hwy 22. The Park hosts special events year round. Please check the web site or contact the visitors center for up coming events.

Description of this Jackson Attraction: The "Tales and Stories" of Rockabilly Music History makers are told by tour guides using life-size oil portraits, artifacts, videos and tapes of the Supers Stars that created Rockabilly Music History. Fourteen (14) life size oil portraits of "Larger than Life" superstars hang in "The International Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame, Inc." which is located in Carl Perkins hometown of Jackson, Tennessee. Major artists who performed in the "Blue Suede Shoes" era with Carl have displays in the hall of fame. A 28'x70 exterior mural featuring Carl Perkins, and his original 50s band, and Paul McCartney grace the hall of fame building. Tour guides explain the business and personal relationship of the "The Beatles" and Carl.
