Columbia Vacations At a Glance

Best Time to Visit Columbia South Carolina
If you are interested in the zoo or anything else outside, you might want to schedule your visit during the spring or fall. Summertime in Columbia is usually sweltering. In the fall USC Gamecocks football takes over the town; if youre a fan come on down. While Columbia is a rising star in the southeast convention business, there are sufficient hotel rooms for the business traveler or tourist to stop by anytime. Click Here to find hotels in Columbia. Average Columbia Weather
Some like it hot. If you do, head for Columbia during the summer months when average highs hit the high 80s and low 90s most days. It's good to have an umbrella year-round, but especially during August when South Carolinas capital city averages over six inches of rain. Winters cool but not cold with mean average temperatures in the mid-40s. April and May see mean averages in the 50s and 60s with just over three inches of rainfall per month most years. October and November echo the pattern of April and May.

Transportation
Columbia Metropolitan Airport is served by Delta, Comair, Continental, United and US Airways. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Hertz, and Thrifty all have airport outlets. Many of the airport area hotels provide courtesy shuttles. Unless your stay in Columbia is for a convention based at a particular hotel, a car is pretty much a necessity. Its a difficult town to get around in on public transportation alone.

In-Season Costs
Columbia wont break anyones budget. You can find a superior room in the $90 through $110 range and a wide variety of moderately priced and inexpensive options. Be certain to book in advance during football season and when the state government is in session. Dining out in Columbia shouldnt set you back more than $20 per person even at moderately nice restaurant. The city has lots of sandwich shops and other places catering to university students as well as the usual line up of fast food places.

South Carolina Tourism - Columbia Attractions, Activities and Day Trips
The drive time to Myrtle Beach is just under three hours; close enough for a day trip to the Grand Strand if you have a hankering for cotton candy, roller coasters, sand and surf. You can be in Charleston, SC, in less than two hours. In Charleston a walk around the Battery is one of the best tourist bargains in the USA. While you are there be certain to stop by Middleton Plantation and Gardens to see one the southeasts premier tourist sights.
