Museum Scavenger Hunt Tours Cumberland County Historical Society

Description of this Harrisburg area Attraction: Just in time for summer are two new fun “Scavenger Hunt Tours” to go on at the Cumberland County Historical Society. Two different levels are available to challenge your awareness of the museum’s galleries and artifacts. Museums aren’t stuffy and boring anymore. The society is located at 21 North Pitt Street in Carlisle. Pick up your scavenger hunt instructions in the entry and return it to the receptionist when finished for a prize from the treasure chest.
There is always something new happening at CCHS for all ages and interests. Admission to the museum is free. Looking for something to do during the summer? Save gas and sightsee near home. CCHS offers a new exhibit Earth, Fire & Form: The Potteries of South Central Pennsylvania, new Windows to History, or you may research your family tree and do Genealogical Research in the Hamilton Library. Groovy 1970s Day at the Cumberland County Historical Society Remember or Relive this Groovy Decade!

Description of this Harrisburg area Activity: Remember Sonny and Cher, the Kung-Fu Series, and Welcome Back Kotter? Or are you someone who wonders what people did for fun during the 1970s? On Sunday, January 25, 2009 join the Cumberland County Historical Society’s educational curator Janeal Jaroh for an afternoon of activities and games of the 1970s. We will relive the 1970s experience by learning disco dance moves, singing television theme songs, hosting a contest to see who has the best Chewbacca yell and other fun-filled activities. There will be different 1970s board games available to play as well as a penny candy store. Get in the spirit and come dressed in 1970s attire. Period clothing will be on hand if you have misplaced your jabot or headband.
This event is free for members and is $3.00 to the public. The Groovy 1970s Day will be held from two until four in the Cumberland County Historical Society, which is located at 21 North Pitt Street, Carlisle, PA. Please call (717) 249-7610 to register for the event or with any other questions.

Description of this Harrisburg area Attraction: Happy 200th Birthday Mr. Lincoln! All over the country people are marking the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth. As part of the celebration, we at the Cumberland County Historical Society will have two cases filled with Lincoln memorabilia presented by collector Joe Cullison. This event is free and open to the public. See the “Lincoln Pole” which was presented to President Lincoln on his inauguration day and placed on the grounds of the White House every Memorial Day until the early 1920s. There will also be several photographs and a statue constructed of pecans on exhibit. The Cumberland County Historical Society is located at 21 North Pitt Street.
