Adena Mansion & Gardens
2000 Acre Estate of Thomas Worthington

Description of this Ohio Attraction: Adena Mansion & Gardens was the former home of Thomas Worthington, the sixth Governor of the State of Ohio and considered to be the Father of Ohio Statehood. The Mansion was completed in 1806-1807 and has been restored to look much as it did when the Worthington family lived there. Situated on the remaining 300 acres are five outbuildings and formal gardens. The gardens are filled with heirloom flowers, trees and vegetables. Looking east from the north lawn, visitors can see the view depicted on the Great Seal of Ohio. The Museum and Education Center features interactive exhibits that connect people to life in Ohio in the early 1800's.

Historic Fort Steuben
Reconstructed 18th century fort

Description of this Ohio Attraction: Historic Fort Steuben is a reconstructed 18th century fort on its original site overlooking the Ohio River in Steubenville, Ohio. Built to protect the surveyors of the Northwest Territory, the Fort provides living history and educational programs on the life of the soldiers, the Indians, and the settlers on the Ohio frontier. The Exhibit Hall in the Visitors Center features changing exhibits on Ohio history and culture. Ohio Valley Frontier Days celebrates our frontier heritage annually at the end of June. Fort Steuben Park offers greenspace within downtown Steubenville and summer concerts on Thursday evenings in the Berkman Amphitheater.

Description of this Ohio Attraction: Hopewell Culture National Historical Park preserves several of the earthworks of the ancient American Indian culture we call the Hopewell. The Hopewell culture was centered on Chillicothe from about 200 BC to AD 400. This unique culture built geometric earthworks of various shapes as well as mounds. Their finely crafted artifacts are evidence of extensive interactions with inhabitants of areas as far apart as the Gulf of Mexico and the Rocky Mountains. These features provide insights into the political, economic, and spiritual lives of the Hopewell Culture.

Description of this Ohio Attraction: The John & Annie Glenn Historic Site is dedicated to telling the story of 20th Century American history through the lives of John & Annie Glenn and to creating educational programs for learners of all ages. The tour begins with a 20-minute orientation movie (narrated by Hugh Downs). What makes the attraction unique is the living history presentation done on the main floor of the Historic Site which is John Glenn's boyhood home. The year is 1944 and we are in the middle of WWII. Experience life on the homefront during that time and the sacrifices made at home to help with the war effort. Also, learn about their devotion to one another, their family, church, community and their country. See John's bedroom with handmade planes hanging from the ceiling and a toy room with his train set and tricycle just like they were when he was a boy and displays from his military and political careers as well as the space program, including a replica of the Friendship VII space capsule in which he orbited the earth in 1962. Visitors also have the opportunity to have a virtual conversation with John Glenn. This site is very family oriented
