Old Barracks Museum
Revolutionary War Museum

Category:     Trenton Historic Site near Princeton, New Jersey


Description of this Princeton area Attraction: The Old Barracks Museum was built in 1758 to house British soldiers during the French & Indian Wars. During the American Revolution, New Jersey's troops were raised here and the Hessians occupied the building during their occupation of Trenton prior to the Battle of Trenton (12/26/1776). Following the battles of Trenton, the barracks was used as a military hospital for inoculation against smallpox. Today, the National Historic Landmark features costumed interpreters escorting visitors through the restored building. Soldiers quarters, medical rooms, officers quarters and gallery exhibits. Special events take place throughout the year including the annual reenactment of the Battles of Trenton on the Saturday following Christmas.
