Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall Historic special events arena
Category: Atlantic City Concert in New Jersey
Description of this Atlantic City Attraction: Historic Boardwalk Hall, which first opened in 1929, received an extensive $90 million renovation and restoration to transform the building into a modern special events arena capable of variable seating for up to 14,700 people for a main stage concert. All seats within the arena offer excellent sitelines beneath a spectacular 137’barrel-vaulted ceiling.
It is centrally located on Atlantic City’s world famous Boardwalk and flanked by amenities and attractions one would expect from any other world class destination. The renovation, which was completed in just less than three years, was unveiled to the public in October 2001. Since that time, a sparkling line-up of the top concert artists and national touring productions has served to entertain residents and visitors. Featured headliners such as Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, and Andrea Bocelli, among others, have appeared upon the legendary stage. Boardwalk Hall has also showcased some of the most exciting championship boxing matches carded in recent history, featuring Arturo Gatti, Kelly Pavlik, Floyd Mayweather and Oscar de la Hoya. Other popular sporting events have included the A-10 Men’s Basketball Championship, New Jersey’s state high school wrestling finals, Skate America 2005 and Professional Bull Riders. Family entertainment has included Walking With Dinosaurs The Arena Spectacular, WWE, Disney On Ice and Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Boardwalk Hall is listed on the United State Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark, and the renovation has received nine architectural and engineering awards, including a 2003 National Preservation Award, Design and Construction magazine’s 2002 Renovation Project of the Year, and Building magazine’s 2002 Modernization Award. In 2003 and 2004 Billboard magazine recognized Boardwalk Hall as the top grossing mid-sized arena in North America. In 2005, 2006 and 2008, Billboard and Venues Today recognized Boardwalk Hall as the highest grossing mid-sized arena in the world.
Boardwalk Hall is managed by the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority. SMG operates the Atlantic City Convention Center and Boardwalk Hall.
