We are New Hampshire's oldest winery and vineyard located in South Hampton, New Hampshire on the border of Amesbury, Massachusetts and have been producing premium red, white and rosé NH wine since 1994. Our world-class New Hampshire wines such as Seyval, Cayuga White. Chardonnay, Maréchal Foch, and Vidal Icewine have won acclaim from consumers and critics alike. During the past several years Jewell Towne Vineyards has truly made a name for itself in the New England wine scene by capturing more than 100 medals in international competitions due to the experience and skill of winemaker Dr. Peter Oldak.
At the winery you can learn about the winemaking process from vine to bottle on our guided tours, and then stay for a complimentary wine tasting to discover the premium wines that are made from New Hampshire grown grapes. After your tasting take a stroll through our vineyard, or take time to visit the rustic post and beam tasting room and our second floor art gallery where you can purchase some of our delicious and acclaimed New Hampshire made wine. Guide/instructor/naturalist Lucie Villeneuve and a couple other guides provide families, individuals, and groups with two-hour lessons, tours, and excursions, as well as day trips, multi-day wilderness expeditions, and inn-to-inn tours in all regions of NH: White Mountains, Lakes Region, Dartmouth-Sunapee Region, Monadnock Region, Great North Woods, Great Bay & surrounding seacoast areas. We paddle (using touring canoes and kayaks, sea kayaks, whitewater canoes, and sit-on-top kayaks) in calm and whitewater rivers of New Hampshire: Androscoggin, Connecticut, Pemigewasset, Baker, Merrimack, Sugar, Bearcamp, Saco, and Magalloway Rivers, as well as in Lake Umbagog, Connecticut Lakes, Squam Lake, Lakes Winnipesaukee and Winnisquam and many smaller lakes and ponds. We hike, backpack, and snowshoe the Appalachian Trail, Cohos Trail, Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway, and other local easy hikes and nature walks. We backcountry ski and mountain bike in the White Mountain National Forest, snowmobile trials, logging roads, rail trails, and other backcountry trails around the state. We also provide inn-to-inn tours on bikes, skis, canoes, and kayaks.

Appalachian National Scenic Trail National Scenic Trail

Description of this New Hampshire Attraction: The Appalachian National Scenic Trail is a 2,174-mile footpath along the ridgecrests and across the major valleys of the Appalachian Mountains from Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in northern Georgia. The trail traverses Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. The Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is used by day, weekend and other short-term hikers, section-hikers and thru-hikers. Thru-hikers hike the entire length of the Trail in one season.
The A.T. began as a vision of forester Benton MacKaye and was developed by volunteers and opened as a continuous trail in 1937. It was designated as the first National Scenic Trail by the National Trails System Act of 1968. The Trail is currently protected along more than 99 percent of its course by federal or state ownership of the land or by rights-of-way.
