North Dakota Horse Park Horse Park with Horse Racing, Education, Events
Category: Fargo Excursion in North Dakota
Description of this Fargo Attraction: The North Dakota Horse Park is a cooperative effort of a private land donation, the City of Fargo, North Dakota State University, and Horse Race North Dakota. The dream is to create a Horse Park that can be enjoyed by all, with horse racing, NDSU equine study programs, events and shows for both profit and non-profit groups, trail riding for community horse lovers, and a myriad of other opportunities that can be enjoyed by equestrians and non-equestrians alike, from the youngest to the oldest. The racetrack and part of the parking area are complete and the 400-horse barn is complete to host the events. There are a number of other buildings and facilities yet to be constructed. Much of the work that has gone into this project has been donated by numerous private individuals and area businesses interested in producing a quality park for this and future generations.
2005 is our third Horse Race Season. Dates for thoroughbred and quarterhorse racing in 2005 are: August 5,6,7; August 12,13,14; August 19,20,21; August 26,27,28; September 3,4,5. Harness Racing is September 9,10,11. Events during races have included Governor's Day, horse parades, media days, college days, family days, birthday party, and many more! Tickets for horse races are typically $3 per day, and can also be conveniently purchased through 18 area Stop'N'Go Convenience Stores.
Additionally, North Dakota State University is hosting some special seminars this year, including a Horse Judging Weekend Workshop on Jan. 22-23 with John Wolf and an NDSU Horse Fair on April 16-17, featuring Lynn Palm. NDSU also sponsors a horse loaner program that promotes a win-win situation for horse owners and students.
The North Dakota Horse Park Executive Board has just approved a new funding project, that of raising a new facility to serve as the home for Handicap Riding Programs in this region. This is a very large project, and it is hoped it will embody the skills and input of area horse, medical, and psychological people in an effort to improve many lives. We are also making our facilities available to area horse clubs and organizations for their events.
