User Rating:

Description of this Lenoir Attraction: The Caldwell Historical Society opened the Caldwell Heritage Museum in 1991 in the last remaining building of Davenport College which was organized in 1855. The original college was built on land donated by William A. Lenoir and named for General William Lenoir’s son-in-law, Colonial William Davenport, who contributed the most money for the school. The museum provides a chronological history of Caldwell County from pre-colonial days until the present. There are exhibits containing articles from the Native Americans, Revolutionary Period, early National Period, and the Civil War Era. Also, the museum has collections on medical, music, military, cameras, and Oriental art. Operating hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 am until 4:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Other times are available by appointment. For more information, call the museum at 828-758-4004.
