Duluth Minnesota Tourism At a GlanceBest Time to Visit Duluth Minnesota
Summer is beautiful up here because you can do so many activities outside around Lake Superior. The fall colors are breathtaking and the leaves start changing in early to mid October. A lot of our summer activities are from May-October, so if you want to enjoy them come in between those months when the weather is nice. Snow moves in quickly and winters up here can be pretty frigid, but if you do like the cold there are a lot of outdoor events you could do such as ski/snowboard, ice fish and even participate in the polar bear plunge. Duluth does get to experience all four of the seasons, but winter tends to start a bit earlier and end a bit later than in the Twin Cities. The spring and fall temperatures are mild, and the hottest days of summer normally don’t exceed 80s. Transportation
Getting to and around Duluth is fairly easy. Duluth has its very own airport located at the top of the hill. The Minnesota Ballet’s Nutcracker, Dec 11, 2009 to Dec 13, 2009 - Next Month World premiere of Allen Fields' New Manhattan Nutcracker!
Category: Duluth Theater event in Minnesota
Description of this Duluth Event: You won’t want to miss the world premiere of Allen Fields’ Nutcracker set in New York City in the early 1900’s, complete with Edwardian costumes, a lively historic Street Scene, the Party Scene in an elegant Manhattan townhouse, the Snow Scene in a snow-capped Central Park reminiscent of a Currier and Ives print.
There are all the characters you love, plus the spice of a few new ones. Uncle Drosselmeier, an eccentric toymaker, arrives at the Stalbaums’ holiday party, producing a puppet show and bearing gifts he has made in his hometown of Duluth, notably a soldier nutcracker for niece Clara. Brother Fritz and Madeleine, the Butler’s daughter, are immediately jealous of the gift.
Later that night, a battle begins between toy soldiers led by the Nutcracker and mouse warriors led by the Mouse King. Masks cannot fully disguise the resemblance of the Mouse King to the Butler or three of the warriors to Fritz, the Butler’s wife, and Madeleine. The battle turns against the soldiers, but with Clara’s help, the Nutcracker triumphs; and the pair goes on a magical journey to wondrous places of whirling snowflakes, gorgeous cherry blossoms, and waltzing flowers costumed with a Degas look. And you’ll want to see who emerge from Mother Ginger’s enormous skirt! It’s all to the glorious Tchaikovsky score played live by The Festival Orchestra, sponsored by UMD.
