Lindsborg, population 3,300, is a product of 19th century European migration to America. In 1869, a group of 100 Swedes led by Lutheran minister Olof Olsson settled in the Smoky Valley south of Salina. These people endured through hard work and worshipped as they wished. But they also set a tone that would make Lindsborg different. In spite of their struggle for mere survival, the people of Lindsborg also made time to celebrate the music and visual arts of their homeland. They sang, played instruments, enjoyed books, and made fine arts and crafts, elevating culture in even the most humble of beginnings.
