| Description | Cave City is the "Gateway to Mammoth Cave National Park." Mammoth Cave is the second oldest tourist attraction in the United States, second only to Niagara Falls. Welcome to Mammoth cave - the longest cave in the world and one of the first tourist attractions in America. The cave boasts an incredible 350 miles of explored and mapped passageways, though geologists estimate there could be more than 600 miles in all. Mammoth Cave National Park achieved official park status from Congress on July 1, 1941, was designated a World Heritage Site in 1981, and became an International Biosphere Reserve in 1990. Since then, millions of visitors have journeyed to south-central Kentucky to experience the grandeur of this awe-inspiring sight.

Family Adventure is the destination theme for millions of people who visit the Mammoth Cave Area in Central Kentucky each year. From Dinosaurs to Wild Cave Tours, there are exciting adventures awaiting families who like something different.
Dinosaur World is one of the newest attractions in the cave area. This 18-acre open-air museum, sister to the original opened by Swedish immigrant Christer Svensson in Plant City, FL. in 1998, features over 100 life-size dinosaur replicas that will awe kids of all ages. Not only will your visit with the family fascinate the kids when they see a giant, 30 foot tall T-Rex, but they will also learn a lot about these giants that ruled the earth for almost 200 million years. The dinosaurs are set amid rolling hills and native vegetation, often in family groups, and their modeling and size reflect the latest scientific theories about these extinct giants. Dinosaur World is at Exit 53 off I-65. It is open every day from 8:30 am CT to dusk. In addition to the open-air exhibits, the park offers a “fossil dig” where kids can keep the prizes they find, a large gift shop, a new museum, and picnic facilities. There are eight magnificent caves to visit in Mammoth Cave area and each one has its own unique formations and stories to tell. The most well known cave is Mammoth Cave, which offers seven different ranger guided tours. These tours offer adventure and challenge for families from casual tours to the advanced Wild Cave Tour, a grueling six-hour down and dirty experience that you will cherish for years. The other seven caves offer everything from boat rides, Indian artifacts, museums, and even the legend of Jesse James.
