DescriptionClaimed by the French, fought over by the Spanish and named for an English princess, Amelia Island has been sought after for hundreds of years. Now, people come here for peace.

Families needing a vacation, nature lovers seeking adventure, romantics looking for privacy and companies seeking to inspire their employees look to Amelia’s natural beauty, colorful history and local charm for rest, "soft" adventure and refreshment.

The island offers all types of accommodations from world-class resorts and charming bed and breakfast inns to beachfront villas and family-style hotels. A variety of restaurants and shops will meet the needs of the most discriminating traveler or budget-minded family.

From golf and tennis to kayaking, sunset sails and horseback riding on the beach, Amelia Island provides an array of activities for those who want to keep busy. For those who want pure rest and relaxation with loved ones, there is no better place. Amelia Island’s secluded salt marshes are a bird watcher's or fisherman’s paradise, and its uncrowded Appalachian quartz beaches are framed by dunes up to 40-feet high, providing a natural barrier from the stress and bustle of the world.

Amelia Island is a 25-minute drive from Jacksonville International Airport, which is served by most major airlines with direct flights to a number of cities. This makes Amelia Island an ideal destination for getaways, since direct or connecting flights can reach the Jacksonville airport from any city in the Eastern half of the U.S. in 3 hours or less. If you're driving, Amelia Island is located 15 miles east of I-95 and is 35 miles northeast of Jacksonville, Fla.

5 StarsExcellent!Amelia Island is a beautiful, quite island off the east coast of northern Florida. It is a small low key island. They have all the stores, restarants, and tons of history. The greatest thing about Amelia Island is their small town feel and NON CROUDED BEACHES!! Spend the day on the beach looking for shark teeth. We have gone to Amelia Island every other year for the last 10 years and will continue for years to come. If your looking for a quite vacation with beautiful scenery. Then this is the place for you.Middle age female05-29-08
