Description of this Richmond area Attraction: Over 100 acres of natural developed wildlife habitats including wetlands, ponds, wooded ravines, and a native Indiana prairie. The Jim Cope Conifer Trail features 55 species of pines, spruces, larches, and firs from around the world. Over three miles of hiking trails are available 365 days a year. Adult, child and group environmental education programs are available during all seasons and on weekends.

E.G. Hill Memorial Rose Garden
The All American Rose Garden, and German Friendship Garden

Category:     Richmond Botanical Garden in Indiana


Description of this Richmond Attraction: Centered by a fountain, and dedicated in 1937, the E.G. Hill Memorial Rose Garden honors Richmond’s famed Rosarian, Gurney Hill. The All American Garden with more than 1,600 roses, hundreds of colorful annuals and perennials and a lacy Victorian gazebo, has been awarded the A.A.R.S. Display Garden designation. The German Friendship Garden is in honor of our friendship with Zweibrucken, Germany. Peak bloom periods are June and September. These gardens are located in Glee Miller Park.

Hayes Arboretum

Description of this Richmond Attraction: This 500-acre nature preserve contains 60 acres of old growth beech-maple forest. The Arboretum provides environmental education to adults and children through summer classes, workshops, exhibits and tours. You can hike trials, enjoy a 4 mile auto nature drive, tour the Hayes History Museum visit out butterfly house or our bird area located in an 1833 dairy barn that has been converted into a Nature Center with hands-on exhibits and a unique gift shop. Winter activities include free snowshoeing (provided by the Arboretum) and cross country skiing.

Historic National Road
America's First interstate highway

Description of this Richmond Attraction: The Historic National Road was America's first interstate highway and was established by an Act of Congress in 1806. The Indiana portion, built between 1829 and 1834, linked the eastern seashore with the western interior. Today, the Indiana National Road Association helps to preserve, protect and promote the Historic National Road. The road was recently designated an All- American Road.
