Cirque Du Soleil ALEGRIA, Nov 25, 2009 to Nov 29, 2009 - This Month Acrobatics, aerial acts, flamboyant costumes and sets.
Category: All Locations Theater event in Georgia
Description of this Georgia Event: Alegría is a mood, a state of mind. The themes of the show, whose name means "jubilation" in Spanish, are many. Power and the handing down of power over time, the evolution from ancient monarchies to modern democracies, old age, youth—it is against this backdrop that the characters of Alegría play out their lives. Kings' fools, minstrels, beggars, old aristocrats and children make up its universe, along with the clowns, who alone are able to resist the passing of time and the social transformations that accompany it.
Pricing is available for children ages 2-12, students, military and seniors (65 and over). In addition, pricing is available for a Family Four Pack designed for two adults and two children ages 2-12.

“Scrooge In Rouge: A British Musical Hall Christmas Carol”, Dec 03, 2009 to Dec 27, 2009 - Next Month It is uproarious entertainment for the holidays!
Category: Atlanta Theater event in Georgia
Description of this Georgia Event: The clever pleasures of ‘SCROOGE IN ROUGE: A British Musical Hall Christmas Carol” are abundant, varied, risqué and virtually non-stop. It is uproarious entertainment; a brilliantly constructed funhouse that works on multiple levels and provides holiday theatergoers with something to cheer about. This three-actor gem of a show highlights the notable virtuosity of an acting trio as they create, with great bombast and bravado, a well-delineated cast of over twenty characters between them. The show provides giddy games of gender, identity, reality and theatricality, all within the framework of the music hall at its early height in 1843. This happens to be the year that Charles Dickens wrote his potboiler of a morality tale to make a quick quid.
The site and era of this wickedly fun satire fast forwards to a tatty establishment in Victorian England - Her Majesty’s Promenade Grand Theatre, All Saints-on-the-Wash, Blackpool. The Royal Music Hall’s twenty-member Variety Players presentation of their beloved musical melodrama “A Christmas Carol” becomes seriously hampered by seventeen of the players falling victim to food poisoning. It would make Dickens, The Bard and every other thespian of repute proud to know that the diminished players opt for “the show must go on.” As the action to do so is ignited, in the truest sense of the overused phrase…hilarity ensues!

ABOUT:
Headlined by Director/Writer and 1/3 of the acting chops on stage is RICKY GRAHAM. The amazingly talented Mr. Graham not only directs, he also wrote the book and lyrics (with “interesting bits”) from his co-stars. JEFFERY T. ROBERSON, often better known as his alter ego VARLA JEAN MERMAN provides gilded vocals and a gargantuan presence. The astounding Roberson plays a myriad of dual gender roles as does YVETTE HARGIS, a stage presence to be reckoned with, if ever there were one. All three New Orleans-based performers are at the top of their game with a dizzying display of swift, seamless character shifts. The familiar sounding Dickensian characters, with a comic bent, are all there: Scrooge, himself along with the colorful Vesta Virile, Lottie Obligato, Bob Cratchit, Hermione, Mr. Fezziwig, Vesta Tilley, Gladys the Maid, et al. Watching them bounce in and out of twenty-four different characters is akin to observing a master class in the art of intentional overacting. JEFFERSON TURNER (as Alfred Da Capo) provides the musical composition and accompaniment with a real feel for the period, vamping up the theme, creating a faux operetta and all general sorts of merry melodies while tickling the ivories.

Holiday Lights and Market 2009 at Grant Park, Dec 11, 2009 to Dec 13, 2009 - Next Month A holiday European style market in the heart of Atlanta
Category: Atlanta Festival event in Georgia
Description of this Georgia Event: In the tradition of Christmas markets held throughout Europe since the 14th century comes Atlanta’s first annual Holiday Lights and Market in Grant Park, December 11-13, 2009. Sponsored by the Grant Park Conservancy, the Holiday Lights and Market will feature live entertainment, sparkling lights, food and an artist market.
The festival is held in cooperation with the 28th annual Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes (December 12-13), which is sponsored by St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Grant Park Parent Network and the Grant Park Cooperative Preschool. The Holiday Lights and Market will serve as a unique destination for Atlantans interested in purchasing holiday gifts or just looking to get into the spirit of the season.
Choirs, choral and instrumental groups will perform music of the season throughout the three-day event. Up to 100 artists will display an array of artwork ranging from textiles to paintings, photography and jewelry. Warm drinks, sweet and savory foods, and beer and wine will be on sale. The festival opens at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 11 and closes at 9 p.m. On Saturday, December 12, it opens at noon and closes at 10 p.m. On Sunday it opens again at noon and closes at 7 p.m.
“The Grant Park Conservancy is happy to introduce to Atlanta this special holiday festival, which has long been a tradition in old town squares across Europe,” says Phil Cuthbertson, director of the Grant Park Conservancy. “I think once people see how much fun they have doing their annual holiday shopping at the Holiday Lights and Market, it will become a tradition in Atlanta as well.”
With roots tracing back to 1393 in Frankfurt, Germany, advent markets, also known as Christkindlmarkets or Santa Claus markets, began in Germany but spread quickly throughout Europe. At one time it was the only place and time of year to buy Christmas tree ornaments. Throughout December European old town squares are aglow with lights during these festivals and packed with shoppers, artists and musicians.
Through the Holiday Lights and Market, the Grant Park Conservancy hopes to introduce the public to the beauty of the park in the wintertime, as well raise funds for ongoing park restoration. All proceeds will benefit the Grant Park Conservancy.
