Even the coldest month, January, seldom sees a freeze; average mean temperatures are in the 50s. June, July, and August are very hot with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s. April, May, September and October all have highs in the 80s. July has over eight inches of rain on the average. October is the driest month and even then the rainfall averages almost three inches. Transportation Six carriers serve Tallahassee Regional Airport. Avis, Hertz, Alamo, Budget and National Car Rental are all on site. Cabot Lodge, the Doubletree Hotel, the Radisson Hotel and the Holiday Inn Select all provide courtesy shuttles from the airport. Call 850-891-5200 for information about Tal-Tran Bus service, which covers the city. Once you are downtown, enjoy the Old Town Trolley, which covers the entire area and runs every 20 minutes Monday through Friday (it's free). Thats right, no charge for the trolley. In-Season Costs Despite being a state capital, Tallahassee is surprisingly affordable. You can find good food and good lodging to suit any style or budget. If you are on an economy plan you can stay for less than $40 a night and spend $10 or less for dinner. Because of the influx of people doing business in the area, youll find some upscale eateries that serve gourmet meals in the $30 to $50 range, including wine. A business class hotel room in a good location will cost from $80 to $100. Florida Tourism - Tallahassee Attractions, Activities and Day Trips Wakulla Springs State Park is your best bet as far as a day trip. Its only 15 miles south of Tallahassee off SR-61 on SR-267. Open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk, car admission is $3.25. The cost for pedestrians and cyclists is $1.25. The park is the site of one of the largest natural springs in the world. Glass-bottomed boat cruises and river cruises are available for $4.50 each. On the river cruise you will likely see deer, turkeys, turtles, herons, egrets and alligators. Wakulla Springs Lodge has a really nice restaurant; its recommended that you call 850/224-5950 for reservations if you plan on including it in your day trip.
