Big Cypress National Preserve National Park
Category: Ochopee National Park in Florida
Description of this Florida Attraction: The first National Preserve in the National Park System, Big Cypress has a mixture of pines, hardwoods, prairies, mangrove forests, cypress strands and domes. White-tailed deer, bear and Florida panther can be found here along with the more tropical linguus tree snail, royal palm and cigar orchid. This meeting place of temperate and tropical species is a hotbed of biological diversity. Hydrologically, the Preserve serves as a supply of fresh, clean water for the vital estuaries of the ten thousand islands area near Everglades City.
Visitors will find a recreational paradise with camping, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and birdwatching opportunities. Those passing through may be enticed to linger in this remnant of wild Florida to search for evidence of the elusive Florida panther or to watch an endangered woodstork feeding along a roadside canal.

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Discover the past, present and future of space exploration.
Category: Kennedy Space Center Theme Park in Florida User Rating:
Description of this Florida Attraction: The gateway to mankind’s greatest adventure is surprisingly close to Orlando — just 45 minutes east, but worlds apart from Orlando’s theme parks. Set within a lush island wildlife refuge bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and intra-coastal waterways, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex offers visitors the chance to explore the very grounds and facilities from where NASA has launched rovers, satellites and humans into space.
With so much to see and do, plan to spend the day exploring Kennedy Space Center’s attractions.
Tours of Kennedy Space Center take you deep into NASA’s working launch facilities. At the Apollo/Saturn V Center you’ll walk beneath the massive 363 foot Saturn V Rocket built for the Apollo moon program. The Astronaut Hall of Fame features historic space craft, personal astronaut mementos and hands-on activities.
Experience the zany live-action and special effects of “Mad Mission to Mars 2025,” meet a real astronaut at Astronaut Encounter, walk among towering rockets in the Rocket Garden and enjoy exciting space films including “Space Station 3-D” and “The Dream is Alive” in giant, back-to-back IMAX® theaters.
The new Astronaut Training Experience (ATX™), developed with input from veteran NASA astronauts, offers a true taste of the space flight experience. During this full-day adventure, train for the rigors of space flight as you prepare for your very own mission aboard a full-scale shuttle mock-up.
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex opens daily at 9 a.m. For more information, call 321-449-4444 or visit www.KennedySpaceCenter.com.

Peace River Refuge & Ranch Exotic Animal Sanctuary ASA Accredited Exotic Animal Sanctuary
Category: Zolfo Springs Zoo in Florida
Description of this Florida Attraction: Peace River Refuge & Ranch (www.PeaceRiverRefuge.org) is a nonprofit exotic animal sanctuary, fully licensed and accredited by the American Sanctuary Association. The sanctuary offers tours exclusively TWICE A MONTH by ADVANCE RESERVATION ONLY. The sanctuary is dedicated to the lifetime care of abused, neglected, confiscated or unwanted exotic animals to prevent them from being destroyed.
The animals that come to our sanctuary are given permanent homes and most have come from situations that were potentially harmful for the animals. We do not sell, transfer or give away any of the animals we rescue and they are not used for breeding; we simply protect them from harm. Our highly trained staff ensures that their medical, nutritional, and emotional needs are well met. With help from our supporters, we are able to provide permanent habitats for these animals on our 90-acre compound.
There are many other kinds of facilities who keep exotic animals, including zoos, breeders, attractions and parks, pet owners, placement or adoption shelters, and even hunting ranches. These facilities are distinguished from TRUE sanctuaries in that their income is derived from the animals they have. True sanctuaries, by their very nature, can derive little if any income from the animals because the needs of the animals come first.
Our facility offers guided, educational tours by advance reservation. Visitors have the unique opportunity to come as close as five feet away from many of our animals, ranging from tigers, cougars, a black leopard, lynx, and other big cats to wolves, bears, bats, primates and more. All the while, they are learning about the animals, why they are here and the plight of their wild counterparts.
We try to provide the largest natural habitats for each animal that resides at our facility at all times. Where possible we place animals in habitats together to enrich their lives by sharing their home with others of their kind.
FOR RESERVATIONS CONTACT INFO@PEACERIVERREFUGE.ORG OR CALL 863-735-0804.
