| Description | Inspired by seeing Louis Armstrong on The Ed Sullivan Show, jazz trumpeter Jon Faddis began playing music at age eight. Upon graduating from high school, Faddis joined none other than Lionel Hampton's band as a featured soloist and, that same year, was invited to New York’s Village Vanguard. Over the course of his storied career, Faddis has toured with Charles Mingus, recorded with Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Peterson, and served as Musical Director of the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band. Television viewers may even recall his trumpet on the theme to The Cosby Show. The 20-piece University Jazz Band, founded over 30 years ago and currently led by Gordon Vernick, has previously backed such notables as Nicholas Payton, Kenny Garrett, Slide Hampton, David Sanchez, Joe Lovano, and Jimmy Heath. |
