| Description | The Charles Mingus Big Band is an all-star group of 14 musicians who have not only preserved Mingus’ amazing compositional genius but who are keepers of the flame, making the music live and breathe in the here and now. Mingus was a virtuoso bass player, accomplished pianist, bandleader, and composer. From the 1960s until his death, Mingus remained at the forefront of American music. Under the artistic direction of Sue Mingus, the Grammy Award-nominated band this year celebrates the 50th anniversary of the legendary releases Mingus Ah Um and Blues & Roots. |
