| Description | Based on the Georges Bernanos noir screenplay, and the novel The Last on the Scaffold, Dialogues of the Carmelites is considered by many to be Francis Poulenc’s musical masterpiece. Premiering at La Scala in 1957, the gripping story follows one woman’s journey to find her place within an order of Carmelite nuns, and the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror as it reaches into the convent to quench its thirst. The finale is a theatrical tour-de-force, both enlightening and compelling. Presented and performed by Georgia State University Opera Theatre, David Grabarkewitz, artistic director. |
