DescriptionLadysmith Black Mambazo represents the traditional culture of South Africa and is regarded as the country’s cultural emissaries around the world. The music of Ladysmith Black Mambazo was born in the mines of South Africa, where black workers would entertain themselves by singing these songs. When miners returned to their homelands, the tradition returned with them. Their 2006 Grammy Award-winning album Raise Your Spirits Higher married the intricate rhythms and harmonies of their native South African musical traditions to the sounds of Christian gospel music.
