Aspen Travel At a GlanceBest Time to Visit Aspen Colorado Most visitors come to Aspen for ski season and thats likely when you will want to go. If business or family is going to bring you to Aspen and the slopes dont entice you, consider a summer visit when hotel costs plummet. It is an easier drive from Denver during the summer, as well, during the winter, Independence Pass on Hwy-82, which provides the quickest access to Aspen, is closed. The detour through Glenwood Springs adds an extra 70 miles to the trip from Denver. Click Here to find hotels in Aspen. If you need additional visitor information for Aspen, Click Here. Average Aspen Weather Only in July do the average low temperatures climb into the 40s, and from September through May average lows are under freezing. November through March, the weather is almost always cold. June through September daytime highs average in the 70s. Year round the precipitation is just over an inch each month. Transportation Most tourists fly into Denver where connecting flights serve Aspens small airport. Supershuttle and Colorado Mountain Express provide service from the airport. Many folks fly into Eagle County Airport in Vail and use Colorado Mountain Express for the remainder of the journey to Aspen. In Aspen, the Roaring Fork Transit Agency runs a free skiers shuttle between the four mountains, charges nothing for journeys within the town, and also serves the airport and outlying areas for a small fee. In-Season Costs Even the best bargain hunter will do well to find a room in the $120 range during the winter months. Expect to pay close to $200 a night for a room during high season. You can also stay in nearby Carbondale or Glenwood for a more moderately priced room in the $80 to $90 price range. Most of the areas restaurants charge at least $25 per entre. However, the area bars also serve good food and with a little searching you can find bar food at reasonable prices. Many area bars offer live music without a cover charge. Colorado Tourism - Aspen Attractions, Activities and Day Trips If you want to sample surrounding slopes, Vail is close enough for a quick day trip --- its only seventy miles away. During the summer many tourists take a route through the Rocky Mountains with pitstops in Steamboat Springs, Boulder, Estes Park and other areas surrounding Rocky Mountain National Park. When the weather is warmer and the roads are clear there are a lot of options in the area. However, if youve come to Aspen during ski season its unlikely youll venture far a field.
