Description of this Bakersfield Attraction: The Kern County Museum is a real California experience showcasing thousands of real artifacts in more than 56 historic exhibits amid 16 shaded park-like acres. Here visitors can discover the past at their own pace. From the 1891 Queen Anne style Howell House to the 1868 Barnes Log Cabin, the 1882 Norris School, to jails and a train depot there is truly something everyone can enjoy. The Lori Brock Children's Discovery Center is specifically for children 8 and under; a place kids can learn through play. The award-winning Black Gold: The Oil Experience offers unique hands-on experiences for visitors of any age. Originally built as the Kern County Chamber of Commerce, the main museum houses a variety of permanent and changing exhibits. Be sure to check the museum website (www.kcmuseum.org) for fascinating special event dates. Car shows, antique shows, living history days, family fun days and more are scheduled all year.

Description of this Bakersfield Attraction: Opens the first weekend in October each year through Halloween and encompasses 23,000 sq. ft. of land at Fruitvale-Norris Park. Talladega Frights is Bakersfield's largest haunted attraction, with a cast of 65 actors and four (4) separate themed haunts. Each year, the crew builds something 100% new and innovative, employing animatronics and the latest in "haunt" scare techniques. With a nod toward realism, Talladega Frights spends thousands of dollars each year to construct detailed areas that will make patrons feel as if they are moving inside terrifying movie scenes. While the haunt is family-friendly, it is designed for ages 14 and up. Parents must use their own discretion with children under 14.
