| Description | In 1857, esteemed New Orleans architect, James Gallier, Jr., put his considerable talent to work designing a residence of his own. Enjoy a stroll through Gallier's elegant Victorian home, authentically restored to reflect the taste and lifestyle of a successful urban designer in 19th-century New Orleans. Gallier House is an outstanding example of accurate and comprehensive historic restoration of one of New Orleans' loveliest and time-honored landmarks.
As part of the annual programming at the Gallier House: during the summer months the house dons her summer dress; every Wednesday, from October through May living history demonstrations are presented, exploring such diverse topics as 19th-century housekeeping to woodworking; and the halls are decked as well as everything else during the holiday season. |

| ***** | I took a tour of Gallier House on Monday, December 22, 2008, and enjoyed it immensely. I am originally from New Orleans, but will always enjoy its history and architecture. The Gallier House tour is memorable in that it exhibited many unusual features, as well as a record of daily life for that period, as presented by our guide, who was well-spoken and knowledgeable. I liked the gift shop and picked up several unique, yet reasonably priced, items for holiday decor and gifts. Next visit, I'll go to the Hermann-Grima house! | Female older than 55 | 01-02-09 |
