The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library is a National Historic Landmark nestled within Staunton’s Gospel Hill District and is a short walk to the city’s historic downtown shops and restaurants. Visitors are treated to a personal guided tour through the Presbyterian Manse where Wilson was born - one of the few original Presidential birthplaces open to the public. The restored Manse, circa 1846, is an authentic pre-Civil War setting complete with period furnishings and Wilson family heirlooms. The beautiful terraced gardens behind the Manse are historically representative of the Victorian era.
The Woodrow Wilson Museum , adjacent to the Manse, features galleries and exhibits that lead you through the 28th president’s academic and public life, including an up-close look at Wilson’s Pierce-Arrow limousine. The Library offers primary and secondary resources covering the presidency, the Great War, and the League of Nations.
As the world becomes more interdependent, the study of Woodrow Wilson, America's first modern international president, is more important than ever. Expansion plans for the Library are in motion to construct an additional building to house new exhibits, programs and seminars, as well as an increased collection of Wilson and Wilson-era items. The Library will, in one location, collect, preserve and make accessible to scholars, students and citizens primary and secondary materials about Wilson, as well as introduce internet access to a wide collection of digitalized Wilson papers. |
