Description	The LIGO Hanford Observatory operates two of the world's largest gravitational wave interferometers. Laser light travels up to five miles through the desert inside evacuated steel tubes as part of this ambitious effort, supported by the National Science Foundation, to open a new window on the universe. The Observatory offers free monthly public tours and can schedule private tours for large groups. Visitors are welcome during business hours to view posters and displays in our visitor area.
