| Description | Kanapaha Botanical Gardens is a 62 acre facility that displays a variety of plant collections, 24 in all, that include the state's largest bamboo garden and the Southeast's largest herb garden. Other gardens include an expansive water garden, palm hammock, rock garden, cycad garden, hummingbird garden, bulb garden, rose garden, vinery, azalea-camellia garden, spring flower garden, butterfly garden and fern cobble. Smaller "vestpocket gardens" are sprinkled along the 1.5 mile paved walkway. One of the most popular of these is a carnivorous plant garden. There is a picnic area on site and the visitors' center, Summer House, hosts a gift shop and rental facilities for weddings, receptions, meetings and other social functions. Kanapaha Botanical Gardens is located on state road 24 (SW Archer Road) 1.3 mi. west if I-75 in Gainesville, Florida. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children 6-13 and children 5 and under are admitted free. Hours are weekdays except Thursday 9-5 and weekends 9-dusk; closed Thursday. |
