| Description | Galveston is home to one of the premier aviation museums in the country. The internationally recognized Lone Star Flight Museum contains an award winning collection of over 40 historically significant aircraft expertly maintained to flying standards, and is the largest of its type under one roof in the Southern United States. Most of the aircraft are from the WWII era to include fighters, bombers, liaison, trainer and executive planes.
The Lone Star Flight Museum is also home to the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame. Recognized by the Texas Legislature, the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame honors the heroes and pioneers of Texas aviation. Housed in the Hall of Fame’s Education Center are displays presenting each inductee’s experiences and contributions to aviation. From barnstormers to moonwalkers and war heroes to entrepreneurs, the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame has it all. Other rotating and permanent educational exhibits designed to increase knowledge, interest, and portray the impact of aviation on today’s world are found in the Education Center.
Museum aircraft participate in over 25 aviation events and air show across the country each year. A few notable aircraft in the collection includes the B-17 Flying Fortress, B-25 Mitchell, P-47 Thunderbolt, P-38 Lightning, F4U Corsair, F6F Hellcat, F8F Bearcat, SBD Dauntless and a British MkXVI Spitfire.
