DescriptionLocust Grove, circa 1790 tells the story of builders William and Lucy Clark Croghan, the enslaved Africans who worked on the property and Revolutionary War her General George Rogers Clark. Clark captured the Northwest Territory from the British in 1779 and resided at Locust Grove during the last years of his life. Their youngest brother William Clark and exploring partner Meriwether Lewis were entertained at Locust Grove upon returning from the Pacific. Today the 55 rolling acres include the restored Georgian house and dependencies exhibiting excellent examples of early American furniture and arts. Period-style gardens with rare and historic plants complement the landscape of woods and meadows. The Visitors' Center houses exhibits, audio-visual presentations and the museum store. Located just six miles up river from Louisville this National Historic Landmark is a unique example of early Kentucky architecture, craftsmanship and history.
