| * | nfortunately my child loves this place- but children have no concept of rude/nasty services and conditions of a public place. The place is a great idea- gone wrong. The staff just doesn't get any more rude than this- I don't even know where to begin with that. Just trust me. The place is just filthy, bathrooms look beat up and rotten and I have never seen them clean the place until today and let me tell you what prompted THAT!
Some child had urinated on the rope climber or perhaps just above it because urine was dripping down the playset and the ropes. A very dirty young man came from the back and blew a whistle then yelled to all the children in the place, "GEEEET OOOOOOFFFFFFFFF!" Nice. So no one knows what is going on, nor does he feel the need to explain. ("HE" as it turns out, is the "Manager"- he later tells us.) Well, on closer inspection, some of the parents, including me can see the urine dripping down the playset and soaked onto the climbing ropes. How do I know it's urine- well the staff confirms that. The Dirty Manager squirt a couple passes of bleach water on the ropes and wipes a paper towel around. This takes about 3 minutes since at first he and the other 2 staff girls are cracking up and grossed out about who should have to clean it up. Then he tells all the kids to get back on! UMMMMM- I bet you can guess where the problem is here....BUT HE COULDN'T! First of all, you can't just squirt bleach water a few times on a rope climber after urine has been on it and call it sanitary. Secondly, even if it was a non-porous surface it takes more than 1 or 2 minutes than that to kill germs and sanitize.
They should have shut the place down for the afternoon and given people their money back. I can understand that accidents happen- OF COURSE. That has nothing to do with it. The problems lies in their unsanitary "cleaning methods". 5 of the 8 or so families/groups present left the property immediately without letting their child back on the equipment, including me. We heard a group asking for their entrance fee back or a discount on their next entrance since they felt they had to leave and were told by Dirty Manager "absolutely not." Good for them for asking- SHAME ON CASTAWAY FOR NOT OBLIGING!!!
So keep in mind their cleaning practices and what I saw today. I am not sure I will ever be back as I cannot predict what happened in there that's nasty, but I CAN PREDICT how the staff will handle your needs.

| ***** | Wow!! First off I would like to say that I absolutely LOVE Castaway Cafe and its staff who have been very gracious with me and my two year old son. I am very tempted though to throw many derogatory statements to the woman with the previous review. First of all, I have been there many times, and multiple times have seen when children have accidents (it happens)and the structure must be cleaned. I was also there when this woman (rude to say the least) attempted to get her money back after the accident happened. I think that the manager did a great job of getting all of the children off the structure, and then thoroughly cleaned it himself for at least 15 min contrary to the lies this witch is telling. Also there was a girl underneath the structure mopping up the mess. I just have to say that I did NOT hesitate with letting my child and myself for that matter go back in the structure because of the fact that i saw how good of a job that they did cleaning the mess. I also saw the woman ranting and raving to her friends about how she was going to get them all there money back or a discount for the next time they come in. Strange that she wanted to come back after her rude and totally unwarranted comment of how unsanitary the place was. I just have to say that i would never listen to an angry woman embarrassed that she couldn't get her money back after bragging to her friends that she could. | ***** | I am so AMAZED! I think it is comical that the one that wrote the nasty review hates Castaway Cafe so much! There are many other play places that she could take her children to-and it seems as though the other comments listed on this website and other places would do nothing but dispute what she is saying. And yet- she wants her money back and return passes!
I have 5 children, I live in Howell and my kids go to school at a private school in Pinckney. My family and I enjoy Castaway Cafe so much that we buy a yearly membership. It is VERY CLEAN, VERY FUN, and the food is REALLY GOOD! When accidents happen, there is always a Manager that gets the children completely off the play structure so that a group of employees can clean up the mess to keep my kids safe! I guess the manager should have dropped what he was doing, went over to her specifically and filled her in on the situation, since she thinks she owns the place anyway-don't worry about trying to immediately get the kids off the structure so they can clean it! Then she is exactly right- they should have given everyone thier money back, return visit passes and also shut thier place of business down for the rest of the day! Tell me- do you know ANY business that would be able to do that or that currently does that? I think not, it is absurd! Even Disney- A PREMIER vacation location would NEVER close a ride or give people money back if a child had an accident- they would simply clean it, sanitize it as quickly as possible, and get the ride going again! This lady is CRAZY!

| ***** | I Love CASTAWAY CAFE'! Every tuesday is character night and i love the look on all the kids faces when they see cinderella, or snow white, or whichever character is there. My daughter loves the yellow slide! Their menu is absolutely wonderful which they actually just lowered the prices on so i am very happy about that. They have so many choices, but the nachos and fries are my favorite. Also, i loved the frozen mocha drink. i've never had something so good and it was about $3! It helps my coffee fix. the staff was super friendly and even brought our food out to our table when they didn't have to. i really enjoy every time i go to Castaway Cafe'. | Female under 25 | 09-26-08 |
